The Brazilian Federal Police (PF) launched a major operation at dawn this Thursday against former President Jair Bolsonaro, three generals, as well as former ministers and advisers, two of whom were arrested, and all of whom are suspected of planning a coup to save the former ruler. in power after losing the 2022 presidential elections. , according to a search and seizure warrant.
At the beach house where Bolsonaro has been on an endless vacation for several weeks now, the PF seized several cell phones – his own and those of the advisers who always accompany him. The feds demanded the enraged former president surrender his passport, but since the document was not at his home, he was given 24 hours to complete delivery.
In addition to Bolsonaro himself, the operation this Thursday saw warrants issued, including search and arrest, against Generals Braga Neto and João Paulo Nogueira, former defense ministers, and Augusto Heleno, former minister of the Institutional Security Cabinet, against Anderson Torres, who held several positions in the last government, including the post of Minister of Justice, as well as civil and military advisers to the former ruler. Two of them, former special adviser on international affairs Felipe Martins and former aide-de-camp Colonel Marcelo Camara, were arrested at dawn.
This is the second operation in a week that concerns Bolsonaro or people very close to him. Last week, federal agents already visited the beach house of Jair Bolsonaro, who left the place in a hurry and returned only a few hours later, but at the time the target was one of his sons, Carlos Bolsonaro, who had cell phones, computer equipment and seized documentation.
