Alexander Stubb declared himself the winner of the presidential elections in Finland

National Coalition Party candidate Alexander Stubb declared himself the winner of the second round of the Finnish presidential election, the agency reported this Saturday. Reuters. At that time, 93.9% of the votes had been counted.

With 96.6% of the votes counted, the former Prime Minister of Finland received 51.7% of the votes to 48.3% for Pekka Haavisto. The difference is lower than polls predicted, but enough to replace Finland’s also conservative Sauli Niniistö as president.

In the first round of the presidential election on January 28, the conservative Stubb won with 27.2% of the vote, while Haavisto, a member of the Green Party who presented himself as an independent, received 25.8%. The participation rate was 75%.
