Moncarapachense coach José Bizarro was brutally attacked this Sunday afternoon, at the end of the match against Elvas, by a player close to the home team, who plays in the Portuguese Serie D championship.
The attack on the former Benfica goalkeeper occurred as the game, which Moncarapachense won 1-0, had ended and the players were still greeting each other while still in midfield. According to several witnesses watching the game, Jose Bizarro made provocative gestures towards Elevense fans, creating some confusion.
An Elvas player reportedly questioned the former goalkeeper and things seemed to calm down until one of the Elvas employees attacked the Algarve coach. The coach was taken to Elvas Hospital with facial injuries and broken glasses.
“Elvas” has already guaranteed that it “denies any form of violence in the sport” and that it will “conduct an internal investigation into everything that happened at the end of the match.” PSP has prepared a report on the events, identified those responsible and will now report the incident to the prosecutor’s office.
