The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has extended the yellow cold warning for 18 areas of mainland Portugal until Sunday due to the forecast for continued cold weather.
All areas on the mainland will be under a yellow warning due to low minimum temperatures until 06:00 Sunday.
Since Sunday, the IPMA has been issuing yellow warnings for cold in areas of the Portuguese mainland.
A yellow alert, the third least severe, is issued by IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain weather-dependent activities.
IPMA predicts continued cold weather this Thursday with periods of very cloudy skies, generally light rainfall from mid-morning, moving southward with snow in the highlands and occasional strong winds on the west coast south of Cape Mondego and in the highlands.
The forecast also indicates the possibility of fog or morning fog in some places and frost formation, especially on land.
The minimum temperatures will range from -4 degrees Celsius (in Braganca, Viseu and Guarda) to 5 (in Faro and Lisbon), and the maximum – from 4 degrees (in Guarda) to 15 (in Faro).
