The leader of the Liberal Initiative (IL), Rui Rocha, said this Monday that the party has the “vision” and “competence” to bring about the changes the country needs to emerge from the “stagnation” it has been experiencing lately. years In an interview with CMTVThe Liberal criticized the injection of money into companies such as TAP and mentioned some of the main goals of the campaign, assuring that he was ready to give the Portuguese new hope based on “effort and merit.”
“We are prepared, we have a vision for the country and we have competence,” began Rui Rocha, highlighting the “qualified” group of IL deputies.
“Not one more euro for TAP”
IL’s president, who has been advocating TAP’s privatization from the start, continues to stress the need to sell the airline and stop “wasting taxpayers’ money.”
“Not one more euro for TAP. We cannot play with the money of the Portuguese. TAP must be sold. The state should not have a company. TAP’s debt must remain on the side of those who want to buy it,” he emphasized.
IL considers the infrastructure portfolio critical
Rui Rocha said that given the situation Portugal finds itself in, “it is not enough to change the government,” but also to change policies. He singles out the infrastructure department as one that he is very interested in, taking into account all the transformation factors it can be associated with.
The Liberal classified the infrastructure portfolio as “crucial”, with “huge transformative potential for rail” and of particular importance to tackling the housing crisis.
“There are a number of situations in which the Liberal Initiative could benefit the country,” he explained.
Dialogue with Montenegro
Asked about a possible alliance with the PSD, Rui Rocha suggested that he would have to talk to Social Democratic leader Luis Montenegro after the March 10 elections. However, he noted that he was somewhat alarmed by the fact that the SDP voted against some of the party’s proposals. IL and SDP have “different plans” and “still have room to move,” he believes.
For a liberal, despite the changes, there is the possibility of dialogue with the Social Democrats if this will allow him to overthrow the socialist government, but Chega cannot be included in the plans.
