More and more families want to get rid of the land they bought in Pinheiro Ramudo’s AUGI (illegal zone of origin) in Palmela. What was a lifelong dream turned into a nightmare. Over nearly three decades, about 700 families have paid the commission, which was created to address issues of infrastructure, sewerage, water supply, electricity and urbanization licensing. Since everything was still not done, they stopped paying. “Our debt has already exceeded 100 thousand euros, taking into account interest it would quickly reach 150, 200 thousand euros. It was as if our future was mortgaged,” explains Salvador Regula, who until recently owned seven lots. The owner and his family explain that they were under pressure.
