Two minors have been charged for their alleged involvement in a shooting by a local team during a Super Bowl celebration in Kansas City that left one person dead and at least 22 injured, US authorities said Friday.
The two suspects, whose identities have not been released, are being held at a juvenile detention center. They are now facing charges against two juveniles accused of shooting at a Super Bowl celebration in Kansas City.
But “additional charges are expected in the future as the Kansas City Police investigation continues,” the Jackson County Circuit Court, which includes part of Kansas City, Missouri, said in a statement Friday.
The shooting happened Wednesday at the end of a parade after hundreds of thousands of people attended a party to celebrate the Chiefs winning the national soccer final.
The shooting killed a popular 43-year-old local radio host and injured 22 others, most of them children and teenagers.
City Police Chief Stacy Graves said the incident was the result of a “dispute between multiple individuals” and added that “preliminary results of the investigation indicate there is no connection to terrorism or violent extremists.”
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office told Fox that those arrested will be charged as adults if the court allows it.
Police initially detained three minors, but one was released after it was determined he was not involved in the shooting.
