“I will almost certainly be a candidate for the Madeira PSD leadership,” he said after the March 23 elections were announced.
The Social Democrat assured journalists that “he has all the conditions” to continue to hold political posts. He also took a critical stance towards the opposition, which makes “false accusations” as an “ignoble strategy.”
“I have all the political conditions because no one has ever bought me, I have never been corrupt and I have a clear conscience. I am ready to defend myself in all cases. In this sense, I retain my political capacity and my rights. as an impeccable citizen,” he explained.
The announcement of the re-candidacy comes about a month after Miguel Albuquerque resigned as president of the regional government of Madeira. Then he acknowledged the possibility of “the end of his political life.”
“This may be the end of my active political life, but I already had a very active political life,” he said at the time.
