The Turkish team Besquitas, coached by the Portuguese Fernando Santos, this Monday terminated the contract with the young Emirhan Delibas after discovering that the athlete has a profile on a dating app.
Delibas, 21, left the club by mutual consent but claims his Bumble profile is “fake,” the Daily Mail reports.
“We have dismissed professional player Emirhan Delibas by agreement of both parties. We wish him every success in his career,” the club said in a statement.
While the official reason has not been revealed, it is believed to have something to do with the recent posting of his social media profile. The images showed Delibas in Besiktas kit holding a drink and wearing his ID.
However, the description states that he is 24 years old, which is three years older than his actual age. It also said he was a professional footballer and was looking for “something casual”.
“I reject the slander contained in the false reports and can confirm that my commitment to the team is unquestionable. Besiktas is a responsibility for me. Your love has been my biggest motivation,” Delibas said in a statement.
This season, the Turk has played mainly for minor teams, but played 14 minutes for the first team, without Fernando Santos on the bench.
Besiktas ranks fourth in the Turkish Championship.
