A priest from Don Benito, in the Spanish city of Badajoz, and his companion were arrested this Monday as part of an operation against the sale of Viagra and other aphrodisiacs.
The parish priest, who was well known and very close to the believers, used his own home to sell sexual stimulants with his partner.
According to El PaisThe investigation began several months ago when the Civil Guard became aware of illegal sales carried out by a priest and another man.
On Monday, during a Civil Guard search of the home where they both lived, agents seized a large quantity of Viagra and arrested two men.
The detainees were accused of criminal trafficking in substances harmful to health outside the legal framework.
Residents of the municipality with a population of more than 37 thousand people knew about the relationship between them. Don Benito has only six parish priests.
After four hours of testimony, the priest was released with the obligation to appear in court twice a month (1st and 15th). The partner is in jail without bail.
The Diocese of Placencia, to which Don Benito’s parishes belong, regrets the arrest of this priest “due to the pain, suffering and scandal that these events represent” and says it is “awaiting the clarification of the facts.”
