Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo once again played an important role in another victory for Luis Castro’s side.
The victory over Al Fayha in the second leg of the 1/8 finals of the Asian Champions League was built on two goals from the Portuguese. The first was not Ronaldo, but Otavio. A cross into the box and an unlikely header gave Luis Castro’s side the lead.
Even in the first half, Ronaldo was close to scoring a goal. After Brozovic’s cross, the Al-Nasr captain sent the ball towards the Al-Faihi goal. In reality, this opportunity was just an aiming point for Ronaldo. That’s because at the beginning of the second half, after another pass from Marcelo Brozovic, Ronaldo faced the goalkeeper one-on-one, dodged him and made the score 2:0.
However, the flag went up, which meant VAR had time to rule the Portuguese striker offside. Ronaldo was offside and the goal was disallowed. Soon after, Ronaldo tested the goalkeeper’s attention again. Launched again at speed, he kicked for careful defence. But if the goalkeeper did a good job with this defense, Ronaldo’s next opportunity ended with the paint washed out.
We already know that relaxing when Ronaldo is around is not a good idea. The goalkeeper hesitated and Ronaldo intercepted the ball to make it 2-0 to Al Nasr. Here the victory was secured once and for all. With Ronaldo’s stamp, Al Nasr reaches the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League.
