“El Sombra, the rotten guy” – the new adventure of Melo D

Melo D, who was the lead singer of the band Cool Hipnoise in the late 90s, has a new job on the market. After “Outro Universo” in 2003, “Chega de Saudade” in 2005, “Sou(l) de Lisboa” in 2016 and “Requiem” in 2021, the singer released his fifth solo album “As Aventuras de El Sombra, rotten boy”.

El Sombra is Melo D’s alter ego in this new adventure. He can often be found in “bad places” such as Bairro Alto, where he “rescues girls from villains”. Always in defense of the oppressed and most disadvantaged classes, says the singer. This month he was at Cais do Sodré, at the Collect bar, with Samalandra. Deborah King, Thiago Martins and Joao Neves. “Maximum Conspirators” who, together with El Sombra, fight for the cause of groove, experimental music, funk, jazz and soul.

“El Sombra is the king of funk and groove,” says Melo D. “He came to settle on planet Earth to bring peace and save the planet from evildoers. We have a conflict between Israel and Palestine, we have a conflict in Ukraine with Russia, we have several conflicts around the world. We urgently need peace and people with the strength and will to change the world.” Melo D warns that the Anti-Hero always appears when least expected. “When someone suffers, when someone is raped or mistreated. Animals are also treated poorly. When necessary, El Sombra appears, just as Superman always appeared at the key moment, El Sombra also has this gift. The first reaction when people see El Sombra is they think he’s crazy. Someone who is not right in the head. They are partly right. All antiheroes have their opposite. In this case, bad people, villains are El Sombra’s favorite target,” says the singer, who also talks about how El Sombra works at night in Lisbon. “You just have to see it to believe it. It’s a spectacle of groove, funk, soul , jazz and experimental music mixed in one place to bring the craziest sonic experiences to everyone.”
