A man was arrested on Tuesday in Santo Tirso on suspicion of possessing a prohibited weapon in an operation that saw the seizure of four birds and 10 administrative offenses against domestic animals, the PNP said on Friday.
In a statement, the armed forces said the arrest in this Porto district municipality came as part of an investigation into threats with firearms in the municipality of Maia, which lasted about eight months and ended with a search of a house and another in a vehicle.
As a result of the searches, as stated in the text, a replica of a firearm, 70 rounds of ammunition and a flashlight capable of producing electrical discharges (“Taser”) were seized.
According to the State Police, checks were also carried out on the suspect’s pets and birds; several violations were identified, as a result of which 10 administrative violation reports were drawn up: four for the lack of rabies vaccine, two for the lack of an electronic identity card. (chip), two for not having a license to keep, own or move dogs, one for not being registered with the Institute of Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) and one for having too many animals on the premises.
Four birds were also seized from the 57-year-old detainee: two blackbirds (Turdus philomelos), a parrot (Psittacidae) and a blackbird (Turdus merula).
Three such birds were brought to the Gaya Biological Park.
The suspect was named as the accused and the facts were submitted to the Maya Judicial Court.
This action was supported by the Section for Crime Prevention and Community Policing (SCPPC) of Matosinhos, the Service of Nature and Environment Protection (SEPNA) of Matosinhos and Santo Tirso.
