Attacked by a group of 50 hooded men
On Tuesday afternoon, Sporting’s team athletes and members of the technical team were brutally attacked by a group of 40 to 50 fans with their faces covered who invaded the club’s training center in Alcochete.
One of the targets was striker Bas Dost, his head was left open in two places and was stitched up. However, the attacks spread to other athletes, coaches and directors of Sporting.
Battaglia, coach Mario Monteiro, Manuel Fernandez, Raul José and two physiotherapists were also attacked by men who, armed with knives, belts and shackles, invaded and partially destroyed the premises of the Alcochete Academy. Dr. Frederico Varandas was also attacked. The attackers destroyed several pieces of equipment.

The President said it was a “police matter”
Bruno de Carvalho reacted to the events in Alcochete on Sporting TV. Sporting’s president says it is a “criminal matter” and ensures the players want to play in the Portuguese Cup final next Sunday.
Vigil in Alvalade
Hundreds of fans gathered outside the Alvalade stadium on Tuesday evening. They shouted words of encouragement to the players and displayed the Dutch flag in honor of Bas Dost.
GNR makes 21 arrests
A GNR was called to the scene and entered the premises around 6 p.m. During the day, these police forces detained at least 21 fans who were allegedly involved in the fight and made dozens of identifications. The ministry said it was investigating the matter.
Players refuse to train
The players were shocked by the situation and refused to train. They even threatened not to play in the Portuguese Cup final, the report said. CM.
