The PNP arrested eight people between 36 and 50 years old for drug trafficking in the municipalities of Porto, Matosinhos, Valongo and Paredes. During the investigation, more than 8,000 doses of drugs were seized.
According to a statement from the aforementioned agency, Guard soldiers carried out an operation that allowed them to dismantle a human trafficking network that had been under investigation for two years. Fourteen searches were carried out: ten in homes, three in vehicles and one in a warehouse.
Carla Passeira from the Santo Tirso Territorial Unit contacted Lusa and informed Lusa that two greenhouses were located in the municipality of Porto and that the drug was intended for consumption and commercialization.
“We were surprised by the organization of the premises,” he said, adding that they allow “massive and constant production of a narcotic product.”
During the investigation the following was seized: 6,430 doses of cannabis; 2064 doses of hashish; 20 doses of MDMA; firearms; brass knuckles; dagger; 2755 euros in cash; temperature and humidity control materials such as heat lamps; electrical materials and medicinal growing materials such as plant pots and fertilizers.
Of those detained, only two were placed in a pre-trial detention center. Four received non-custodial sentences and two were charged.
