In a world first for Formula 1 drone fans, Red Bull has called up Max Verstappen for a unique showdown at Silverstone.
At stake is the debut of the brand new RB20, which the three-time world champion will drive in the next Formula 1 championship.
A specially designed drone “chased” a Dutch driver as close as possible along a British highway.
At the helm of the Red Bull Drone 1 was Ralf “Shaggy” Hoogenbirk of the Dutch company Drone Gods, who manufactured the rocket-shaped aircraft.
The four-rotor vehicle, capable of flying at speeds of 350 km/h, combines elements made of carbon, fiberglass, and 3D-printed polymers.
Weighing less than a kilogram, even with a built-in 4K camera, it accelerates from 100 to 300 km/h in two seconds.
Given its ultra-lightweight design and exceptional performance, Red Bull Drone 1 can fly for just three minutes.
A very short distance, but enough to keep up with Max Verstappen as he accelerates a single-seater at the Silverstone circuit.
