This Friday, the Secretary General of the PS condemned with green paint the protest against PSD President Luis Montenegro in Lisbon, calling not to repeat it and to respect those who defend their positions.
“I condemn any protest in the context of a democratic campaign. We must be able to respect, this is a very important point in our democracy. Parties legally conduct their campaigns, present their projects, and we must respect this.” and then the Portuguese people will express their intention to vote at the polls on March 10,” said Pedro Nuno Santos.
The Secretary General of the PS spoke to journalists after visiting Startup Leiria, reacting to the fact that Luis Montenegro was hit this Wednesday with green paint by a young man at the entrance to the Lisbon Tourist Exchange (BTL), where he entered the election campaign.
Stating that he was unaware of the protest, Pedro Nuno Santos said he deeply regretted it and asked that it not be repeated, stressing that democracy is the “greatest achievement of the last 50 years” and must be protected.
“We must defend our point of view without trampling on the right of others to defend their positions, and in this case the Democratic Alliance (AD). With all due respect to those in AD who defend their proposals, where we differ is in our criticism and struggle,” he said.
After the young man threw paint at Luis Montenegro, the PSP agent immediately removed him, and the PSD president reacted with humor, saying: “I’m ready for anything.”
Nuno Melo talks about ‘childish idiocy’
SDS-PP President Nuno Melo, a coalition partner of the PSD on the AD list, who accompanied Luis Montenegro during the visit, considered it a “cowardly and childish act.”
“People who have no idea. This is not a climate protest. It’s a stupid joke by some kids who don’t know the world they live in and don’t respect others.”
The leader of the SDS-PP said that this was “idiocy that is not normal in a democracy.” “Imposing a political agenda through violence, which has the opposite effect on people,” he added.
“This is not the first time I have found this. There are ways to express political messages, and this is definitely not one of them.”
