The president of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Organizing Committee (OCI), Tony Estanguet, called this Wednesday for a “truce” between workers in different sectors such as transport, given the possibility of strikes during the event.
“I want us to welcome the world in the best possible conditions and not spoil the party,” Estanguet told state broadcaster France 2.
For months now, transport, police and health unions have been threatening to go on strike between the opening of the Olympic Games, which will take place from July 26 to August 11, and the beginning of September, when the Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place from August 28. and September 8.
If in the case of the police the situation seems reduced to a minimum, then with the announcement of a bonus of 1,900 euros for officers working in the Ile-de-France region, where Paris is located, transport unions have already gone on strike. until September.
Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete said he was “not at all concerned” about the situation as he believed “there will be no strikes.”
“I don’t believe that workers, employees or trade unions will jeopardize the image of France or the image of your company in the eyes of the world,” he said.
