A woman threatens staff at a medical center in Campo Mayor

A 47-year-old woman was arrested this Thursday by the PNP for the crime of aggravated threats against health workers, in Campo Mayor, in the district of Portalegre, the security forces announced.

The GNR territorial command in Portalegre explained in a statement that the arrest followed a complaint of threats against two operational assistants at the Campo Mayor health center.

According to GNR, the military “witnessed the suspect threatening the victims.”

Contacted by the Lusa agency, a source from the Portalegre territorial command said that this incident occurred in the morning when the woman went to the health center for an emergency consultation because she was told that this service would only be available from 14:00. .

The same source said that in the current situation, the suspect “verbally threatened two employees” inside the medical center.

The GNR source further explained that this case is classified as aggravated menacing because the victims are government employees.

The facts were submitted to the Elvas court and the case entered the investigation stage.

The suspect was declared an accused and released under a TIR.

In a statement, GNR recalled that the “Medical Workers are Safe” program is being implemented, aimed at medical workers: doctors, nurses, technical assistants, operational assistants and others.

According to Guarda, the initiative is intended to “be a platform for interaction and mutual understanding with other actors with responsibilities related to the health sector in ensuring safety in health care facilities.”

The program, he added, has a “strong preventive nature” against situations of violence, trauma and discrimination, seeking to reduce or minimize risk factors and increase or enhance protective factors for this target group.
