When there was about an hour left before the start of the match, after the arrival of buses with Benfica and Sporting players, in the Telheiras area, not far from the stadium, clashes were recorded between fans of the two teams, who were called “casuals”. Jose Alvalade, which prompted police intervention.
According to Commissioner Arthur Seraphim, the elements assigned to Benfica did not follow the “bark” heading from Luz to Alvalade. One person was injured as a result of these clashes.
“There was only a small outbreak of disturbances near the trailers in the Telheiras area. Some Benfica fans who were not accompanied by our security booth. There was a hotbed of tension where there was more (police) intervention because fans on both sides wanted to create chaos and we had to restore order,” Arthur Seraphim said.
No arrests were made and one was injured, the security official said.
“There was a person who required medical intervention. He was treated on the spot and did not have to go to the hospital,” he concluded.
Today Sporting host Benfica in the first leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-final.
The return game is scheduled for April 3 at the Estádio da Luz stadium.
