A man is acquitted after nearly 30 years on death row in Philadelphia, USA.

A man sentenced to death for a deadly apartment fire in the North American city of Philadelphia, which he long denied involvement in, has been released after nearly 30 years in prison, the Associated Press (AP) reported Friday.

Daniel Gwynn, 54, was released Thursday from Montgomery County State Jail, a day after Common Pleas Court Judge Barbara McDermott dropped charges of first-degree murder, arson and aggravated assault against Gwynn, although he did not comment on his guilt or innocence.

The dismissal was requested by the city district attorney’s office, ending years of pressure from Gwynn’s lawyers, who had long argued that he gave a false confession to Philadelphia police because of his drug addiction and also disputed the police department’s handling of the witness. identification process.
