The President of the Liberal Initiative (IL) perceived the presence of António Costa at the PS election rally as a normal occurrence this Saturday and stressed that it is a “voice from the past” and that Portugal needs a future.
“I see it’s normal [presença de Costa], but these are always voices from the past. We need voices of the future, voices of transformation,” said Rui Rocha at the end of a meeting with the Minho Business Association in Braga, after the start of the campaign for early elections in the local market.
Prime Minister António Costa enters the legislative campaign today and attends a PS rally in Porto this afternoon after speaking at the European Socialist Party convention in Rome this morning.
The Liberal leader reiterated that it is normal for former leaders to appear on election campaigns and that their goal is to convey the messages they believe are most relevant to their parties.
However, he stressed: “We are talking about the past. This decision is a decision about the future of the Portuguese.”
Portugal does not need a “great past”, it needs a future, he insisted, stressing that this was only possible with a liberal vision.
“The solution for the country lies in those who make proposals for the future,” he emphasized.
