Expanding Olival “will be the best option” for Porto’s future, Andre Villas-Boas, candidate for the presidency of the national football champions, emphasized today, criticizing Pinto da Costa for the new academy planned in Maia.
“The concept of a high-performance vocational center along with training is what makes the most sense, not only from an operational and logistical point of view, but also in terms of construction costs and speed of work. We envisage a two-year period for the implementation of the new academy. We will put the financial part out to tender when this leadership takes office. The concept will be demonstrated to members soon,” the former coach stressed.
André Villas-Boas explained for the first time his plan to expand the PortoGaia sports training center in Olival, wanting to combine five football fields – with a stand for games of the B, U19 and women’s teams. -, a hotel and sports pavilion on a plot of land covering more than 30,000 square meters.
“We met with Gayurb in May last year. We are looking forward to meeting with APA. [Agência Portuguesa do Ambiente] to see if we have the same readings regarding some of the watercourses on earth. In principle, there will be no problems, so the feasibility of building our version in Vila Nova de Gaia is complete,” he said.
This expansion of Olival, championed by Andre Villas-Boas, contrasts with the promise of the candidacy of the current FC Porto president, Pinto da Costa, to build an academy of almost 20 hectares in the future Parque Metropolitano da Maia, according to a project designed by the architect Manuel Salgado, author of the Dragao Stadium and Dragao Arena projects .
“We have always said that we will respect the contracts signed in Maya. It is becoming increasingly clear that Maya is probably nothing more than a utopia and another scenario where a torrent of lies is involved and everything is yet to be clarified,” fired.
The president of the current third-placed I League team guaranteed that this “big dream will become a reality” from the first quarter of this year, but in January Mayor António Silva Thiago warned that a public auction for the sale of 11 hectares of Maia City Council on land allocated for the works will be completed “in the next few weeks.”
“Maya Academy does not move cars. This was the promise of the opposition list, but this is not happening. Obviously there is movement in terms of valuing the land and its construction capacity, as we have already done, but it is becoming increasingly clear that this solution on Gaia can become a reality,” he reiterated.
