The funeral of actress Estrela Novais, who has died aged 70, will begin this Friday afternoon in Lisbon and will take place on Saturday at the Olivais crematorium, a family friend told Lusa.
According to information provided by the actor Gonçalo Barata, a family friend of Estrela Novais, “the funeral will take place in the Church of San Pedro de Alcántara on the 8th.” [esta sexta-feira] from 16:00″ in Lisbon.
The funeral will take place on Saturday from 14:30 in the Church of San Pedro de Alcantara, and at 15:00 the body will be taken to the Olivais Crematorium, also in Lisbon, with the funeral procession proceeding ahead. Estrela Novais was born on March 13, 1953 in Porto. She made her debut as a professional actress in 1970 in García Lorca’s Bodas de Sangue, directed by Carlos Cabral for the Porto Experimental Theater and in 1973 she participated in the creation of the Seiva troupe.
She was also one of the founders of the International Theater Festival of Iberian Expression – FITEI.
Throughout his career he has worked with the Porto Experimental Theater, Seiva Trupe, Teatro da Politécnica, Companhia de Teatro de Almada, Companhia de Teatro A Barraca, Grupo Comédias de Lisboa, Teatro Tejo, Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Sociedade de Instrução Guilherme Cossoul. , DRAMAX Oeiras, among other structures such as the former Service of Animation, Artistic Creativity and Education through the Arts (ACARTE) of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
According to a profile available in the database of the Center for Theater Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon, between 1979 and 1982 she received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, taking acting courses in Rome at the Silvio d’Amico Academy, training with Orazio Costa, Giorgio Strehler, Ronconi, Dario Fo and Vittorio Grassmana.
She also participated in several Portuguese TV series and soap operas, receiving several awards, namely “Best Theater Actress” (1984), awarded by Mulheres magazine, and “Best Film Actress” (1986), awarded by Nova Gente magazine.
