Dengue has infected two thousand people in Rio de Janeiro in the last 24 hours

In the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, more than two thousand new cases of dengue infection have been reported over the past 24 hours, highlighting the high intensity of the spread of the disease. The figures were compiled by the municipal health department and published in a partial report published this Saturday.

These new cases bring the city’s total to 56,928 confirmed cases since the start of this year. The city alone, which declared a health emergency in February, accounts for more than half of all dengue cases already confirmed in Rio de Janeiro state, bringing the total to 107,833.

So far, 26 deaths from the disease have been confirmed in the state of Rio de Janeiro, with another 72 people under suspicion. Among the state’s 92 cities, Rio de Janeiro, Volta Redonda and Resende are the ones that have reported the most deaths caused by dengue, but deaths have also been reported in 13 other municipalities.

Apart from Rio de Janeiro, one of the hardest hit by the dengue epidemic, which Lula da Silva’s government continues to call “local outbreaks”, 5 of Brazil’s 27 states now have more cases of the disease than have been seen worldwide. last year. These are Amazonas and Amapá in the far north of the country, Goiás and Brasília in the central-west, and São Paulo in the southeast. Minas Gerais, southeast, and Parana, in the south.
