Medina guarantees “continuity of the trajectory of correct accounts” in the EU

The Finance Minister today reassured his European Union (EU) counterparts of the “continuity of the trajectory of the right reports” following the legislative elections that brought victory to the Democratic Alliance (AD), saying it was “very well received”.

“I had the opportunity to share with several colleagues and after speaking before the entire Council the results of the elections in Portugal and, what seems to me most important, the conviction that the future government, led by the Democratic Alliance and Dr. Luis Montenegro, will continue the path of correct reporting on which followed by the country – in fact, this is a commitment that he made in his election program and I am convinced that he will continue and continue,” said Fernando Medina, speaking to the Portuguese press in Brussels following the Ecofin meeting.

“I wanted to convey to our European partners this message of continuity, that this will continue. I did this with the conviction that it will be done and with what is written in this political commitment,” said the Portuguese Finance Minister after speaking with his community colleagues.

Two days after the Portuguese legislative elections that brought AD victory, a government official stressed that this guarantee “was particularly well received,” noting, however, that “the future government will have to prove this.”

“I have expressed my opinion and my analysis of the situation,” but otherwise “this is normal democratic life, there are elections in all member states,” Fernando Medina said.

While guaranteeing that he will remain a member of the Assembly of the Republic, the still ruler noted that when it comes to the representation of the far right, “Portugal was an exception to a situation that is already more developed in other countries.” what changed with the election on Sunday.

IL received eight deputies (5.08%), BU retained five deputies (4.46%), the CDU reduced the number of deputies compared to 2022 to four (3.3%).
