Sporting is the second most successful team in the world. The conclusion was made by CIES – Football Observatory after analyzing all games up to the 12th of this month out of 54 championships.
In this study, CIES began by calculating the number of goals expected by each team based on the danger of opportunities created and shots (total attempts and those that hit the target). He then compared this figure with the number of actual goals scored.
In the case of Ruben Amorim’s team, they average 2.75 goals per game against an expected 2.16. The difference of more than 0.59 was surpassed only by the Greeks from PAOK: 0.69. The Italians from Roma (0.52), who fired Jose Mourinho during the season, complete the podium. Al-Nasr, where Cristiano Ronaldo and Otavio play, are in 8th place (0.45).
In the Portuguese league, Porto ranks 10th with a score of 0.10. Benfica ranks second to last with a negative balance of 0.19, scoring 2.28 goals against an expected 2.47.
