The FPF Disciplinary Council has opened a disciplinary case against Benfica coach Roger Schmidt. The basis for this procedure is the participation of the APAF following statements by the coach regarding the referee of the Portuguese Cup derby.
On the eve of the game against Porto, on March 2, in the 2nd half of the 1st leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-final, Schmidt attacked Fabio Verissimo for giving Edwards a penalty.
“Everyone saw what happened. The referee wanted to award a penalty in this situation. What Edwards did in the penalty area trying to call a foul was awkward and disrespectful, but it was also embarrassing that the referee wanted to call that penalty. The level of referees and decisions in these games must be at the highest level. That didn’t happen,” Schmidt said.
As Record announced at the time, the APAF would submit its participation and the CD Federation would initiate proceedings.
