The National Republican Guard (NRG) of Setubal seized on Thursday 1,100 kilograms of Japanese shellfish in the municipality of Alcochete, caught and illegally transported, as announced this Saturday.
In a statement, the Setubal territorial command, through the Alcochete territorial post, reported the seizure on March 14 of 1,100 kilograms of Japanese clams (Ruditapes phippinarum) in the municipality of Alcochete as part of an inspection operation for collection and transportation. bivalves.
PPR soldiers discovered two cars transporting bivalve mollusks “in an emergency situation,” identifying two people, 27 and 41 years old, and drew up appropriate reports of administrative violations due to the lack of registration documents.
Following a health inspection, the shellfish will be destroyed, GNR said, keeping in mind that catching, storing and shipping this type of bivalves without cleaning or sanitary control could endanger public health if they are brought in for consumption, due to possible contamination with toxins.
For this reason, a document confirming the origin of bivalves is “fundamental” to prevent their irregular introduction into food.
