The rugby team will face Georgia in the 2024 European Championship final

Portugal face Georgia this Sunday in the Rugby European Championship 2024 (REC24) final, aiming to beat an opponent they haven’t beaten in 19 years and win a title they haven’t achieved in 20 years.

The last time Portugal’s rugby team beat Georgia was in 2005, at the height of their qualifying campaign for the 2007 World Cup in France. Since then, the Wolves have met Lelos 19 times, but the most they managed was four draws.

Of those four draws, two have come in the last two years, with Portugal drawing 25-25 in Tbilisi in February 2022 in World Cup qualifying and 18-18 in Toulouse, France 2023 itself.

However, between these two results, the national team lost the preparatory test for the repechage tournament of the World Cup in July 2002 and the REC23 final in Badajoz a year ago by 38-11.

This Sunday in Paris from 20:00 (Lisbon time), Portugal will try to repeat the historic title won in 2004, when a winner was decided every two years after all the participants in the old Six Nations B tournament faced each other at home. and out.
