Sporting beat Boavista 6-1 on Matchday 26 of the Portuguese Football League in a game played at the José Alvalade Stadium to resume their lead in League One with one more point (and one game less) than Benfica.
Watch the best moments of the meeting:
Boavista started to win in Alvalade with a goal from Makuta, but Sporting turned the game around in the second half with a hat-trick from Dieukeres, a brace from Paulinho and a goal from Nuno Santos.
Playing in Alvalade, where they are the only one who knows how to win the championship this season, the “lion” tried to “lick the wounds” of the Battle of Bergamo in a reception at Boavista.
Ruben Amorim made five changes from Italy’s 2-1 defeat to Atalanta. Coates, Nuno Santos, Morita, Geny Catamo and Paulinho replaced Saint-Juste, Gonçalo Inacio, Pedro Gonçalves, Ricardo Esgayo and Edwards.
On the Boavista side, coach Ricardo Paiva made three changes for the 1-0 win over Moreirense, with Vukotic, Ibrahima Camara and Bruno Lourenço making way for Makuta, Seba Perez and Reizinho.
Sporting conceded a goal after just three minutes due to an error by Franco Israel.
Running towards Onyemaechi’s cross from the left, the Sporting goalkeeper took a shot, the ball went straight to Makuta, who did not respond, and fired for the score, putting Boavista ahead on the scoreboard.
Trincao equalized three minutes later, but the move was invalidated due to Paulinho’s incorrect positioning early in the game.
Disadvantaged, Sporting took some time to recover and it was only midway through the first half that they managed to create some jitters with some good involved play that ended with Gyökeres’ shot over the crossbar.
Boavista retreated from the lines, slowing the game down whenever he could, further unnerving the Sporting team and the fans present at the José Alvalade stadium.
Closer to the break, Sporting were close to a draw: first Paulinho, who failed to clear Gyokeres’ cross, and then Trincao, the striker’s shot in response to the successful intervention of the Boavista goalkeeper.
In Checkers, Ricardo Paiva was forced to replace Rodrigo Abascal with Ibrahima Camara due to injury.
The Lions equalized in the 45th minute through Dieukeres, who blocked Paulinho’s cross, which Morita converted on the left flank.
When he returned for the second half, Ruben Amorim replaced Yulman (yellowish) with Daniel Bragança.
Shortly afterwards, following a corner from Nuno Santos, Coates made an incomplete save from Joao Goncalves, but Diomande in the front area was unable to correct the mistake and shot wide.
But in the 54th minute, Paulinho was in the right place and scored the winning goal with a neat strike after Zhenya Katamo’s successful cross. This was Paulinho’s tenth goal in the current League One championship.
After the score was 2-1, Ruben Amorim made his move again, bringing on Gonzalo Inacio (Mateus Reis) at the back, while Bruno Lourenço replaced Reisinho in Boavista.
Sporting stabilized and Dieukeres reappeared on the scene in the 67th minute, reassuring the Sporting fans with a 3-1 scoreline and his brace of the match thanks to a low cross after another ‘walk’ down the left flank.
In the 79th minute, from the penalty spot following a foul by Seba Perez on Gonçalo, Inácio Dieuqueres scored his first I Liga hat-trick – his second of the season after he scored against Farense in the League Cup.
With three goals against Boavista, Sweden’s top scorer has 22 and is once again the top scorer, now three more than Sporting Braga’s Simon Banza.
Nuno Santos finished it off to make it 5-1 when he saved Djokeres’ cross from close range and, in added time, Paulinho twice headed the Lions’ sixth goal from a corner.
