Accommodation can cost more than three thousand euros a week in Lisbon and eight thousand in Fatima during World Youth Days.

According to a survey on major online platforms, renting an apartment in Greater Lisbon during the week of World Youth Day can cost more than three thousand euros, and in Fatima, eight thousand euros.

After consulting the major online accommodation booking platforms, it can be seen that there are still several thousand rooms available in Lisbon with offers from 189 euros per person, from July 31 to August 7, in a mixed dorm with four bunk beds and a shared bathroom, up to 1800 euro for a two-bedroom apartment.

On the outskirts of the city, the price per adult per week for a two-bedroom apartment in Almada, in the Setubal area, can exceed 3,000 euros, and a double or twin room in a four-star hotel in Santa Iria de Azoia, in the municipality of Loures and on distance of almost 20 kilometers from Lisbon, can cost more than 1,700 euros.

In Fatima, where there is less housing, renting a three-room apartment these days can cost about 8,000 euros. The same apartment as the week before, with the same filters, costs less than 1,800 euros.

Hotels in the capital are currently charging prices from about 900 euros (two stars) to about 7,000 euros (five stars) for the whole week, just like the previous week.

Returning to Fatima, where Pope Francis is scheduled to visit, Booking.com’s cheapest search for an adult for the WYD week is €335 for a bunk bed in a mixed dormitory with shared bathroom, in a guest house five minutes’ walk from the Sanctuary.

You can also book a double or twin room in a two-star hotel near the center of Fatima for 1900 euros.

In a four-star hotel, also close to the center, prices can reach almost 6,000 euros for the whole week.

However, for those who don’t mind staying away, there are hotels about 20 kilometers from Fatima where you can book a twin room for 519 euros for the whole week.

Trivago, another accommodation booking platform, has only seven accommodation options available in Fatima, with prices ranging from €708 per week for a three-bedroom suite to €5,810 for a four-star hotel.

Considered the biggest event of the Catholic Church, World Youth Day will take place this year in Lisbon from 1 to 6 August and is expected to be attended by around 1.5 million people.

The main ceremonies of the day take place in the Tagus Park, north of Parque das Nacoins, on the banks of the Tagus River, in the municipalities of Lisbon and Loures.

The days were born at the initiative of Pope John Paul II after the success of the meeting organized in 1985 in Rome as part of the International Year of Youth.
