The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has suspended two directors involved in a multimillion-dollar corruption investigation, the agency announced this Thursday. Reuters.
The institution’s statement states the removaldirector of legal services, Pedro Gonzalez Segura and HR Director Jose Javier Jimenez. At the same time, RFEF terminated its contract with external legal counsel Tomas Gonzalez Cueto of GC Legal, revoking his authority to represent the federation in litigation along with partner Ramon Caravaca.
The operation, launched by the Civil Guard’s Central Operations Unit (COU), is the result of an investigation into alleged criminal activities related to corporate corruption, unfair management and money laundering.
The trial concerns alleged irregularities in contracts signed by the RFEF since 2018, a period during which the organization was chaired by Luis Rubiales and which included the hosting of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
