Actress Gina Santos dies

Actress Gina Santos died this Wednesday at the age of 86 at the Casa do Artista in Lisbon, the institution announced.

Gina Santos was part of the Theater Group under the direction of Manuela Porto, representing Chekhov and Lorca, according to information available on the official page of the company Artistas Unidos, with which she worked on several projects, and was also part of the cast of several films by Jorge Silva Melo, such as like “Passagem ou a Meio do Caminho” and “Nobody Twice”.

In 1950, Gina Santos joined the Amelia Rey-Colaso/Robles Monteiro troupe, which directed the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II in Lisbon, where she remained until 1966 and performed plays by Marcelino Mesquita, Alejandro Casona, Lope de Vega, Shakespeare, Almeida Garrett , Miguel Mihura, Arthur Miller, Carlos Selvagem, Georges Bernanos, Robert Thomas and Victorien Sardou.

The actress participated in the cast of the Teatro do Povo in 1955 in Shakespeare’s play King Lear, directed by Francisco Ribeiro, known as Ribeirinho.

At the Cornucopia Theatre, which he visited in 1975, he performed Pequenos Burgueses by Maximo Gorka, directed by Jorge Silva Melo.

Under the direction of Jorge Silva Melo of Artistas Unidos, Gina Santos took part in “Não Posso Adiar o Coração”, a poetry and musical concert also featuring the Phydellius Choir and the Amadeus Ensemble, presented in the Senate Chamber of the Assembly of the Republic, April 29, 2004, in as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution.
