Prosecutors are asking for the maximum sentence for three defendants in the case of the death of Igor Silva

This Thursday, at the closing arguments in the court of São João, the prosecutor’s office asked for the maximum sentence for Renato Gonçalves, Marco “Orellas” and “Paulo Cianfra”, the main defendants in the case of the death of Igor Silva.

The request came after the prosecutor considered that Igor’s death had been “reported.” According to Adriana Faria, Marco, Paulo and Renato deliberately attacked Igor Silva near the Dragao stadium. Renato Goncalves is responsible for several stabbings that resulted in the death of Igor Silva. “Chanfra” and “Ears” will grab the victim, preventing him from defending himself.

Thus, prosecutors have no doubt that the attack on Igor Silva was planned and that on the day of the crime the accused moved in a “pack mode” to pursue the victim.

“Son of a bitch, hit me now. You are not in Lisbon,” Marco told “Orelhas” at the time of the crime.

For Sio, prosecutors requested a sentence close to the maximum because they believe he attacked people who were trying to prevent the crime and help the victim. Effective prison sentences have been sought for Iara, Cassandra and Marisa, convicted of attacking a young woman who tried to help the victim. Finally, in the case of Carlos Rosa, known as Honay, accused of threatening a witness, the punishment was at the discretion of the court.

After hearing the deputy’s petitions, Igor Silva’s family lawyer Nelson Souza signed the petitions for conviction, saying that everyone “participated with varying degrees of guilt in Igor’s death.”

Defense of the defendants

Carlos Duarte, Renato’s lawyer, denies that Renato stabbed Igor Silva several times. Renato only admitted that he stabbed himself, which, according to Carlos Duarte, did not lead to the death of the victim. He also said that Renato was sorry.

Lawyers for Marco Orelas’ daughter, Marisa and Cassandra, rejected the prosecutor’s request and demanded the defendants be acquitted. All three are on trial for attacking Elizabete, a young woman who tried to help Igor Silva on the day of the crime.

According to the lawyer representing the interests of Yara and Marisa, the girl was attacked by a man. Iara was observed to only gesture and not engage in aggression.

The defense of Cassandra, who was only 18 years old at the time of the events, argues that although the girl was seen next to the ambulance, she was not involved in the conflict.

Poliana Ribeiro, Marco “Orelhas'” lawyer, said in court that Marco has always been willing to cooperate with authorities. The lawyer denied that Marco stabbed Igor Silva because there were no traces of blood on “Orelhas’s” clothing. Polyana believed that “Orelhas” could not be convicted of murder, at most for a misdemeanor.

The lawyer also claims that Marco was hit three times and suggested that it could have been Igor Silva.

Lawyer Thiago Machado argues that Paulo “Chanfra” is innocent and that the accused had no reason to persecute Igor Silva, so he does not agree with the maximum sentence demanded by the deputy.

Marta Ferreira Araujo, the lawyer of Diogo Meireles, known as “Sio”, was not interested in the death of Igor Silva. The accused was there only to take part in the football celebration.

Miguel Pereira’s lawyer argues that the defendants did not know at the time that Igor was in Alameda. He explains that Mr. José Mendez’s testimony should not have been credible before the bridge brought the defendants to trial. The lawyer argues that “no one” could have guessed that Igor would be there that night, “just by chance” and therefore they cannot be judged “for going up and down the stairs.”

Not a single fact was proven that could attribute Miguel to the commission of a crime.

Ricardo Pinto, Sergio Machado’s lawyer, explains that of the 28 witnesses, not one forced the defendant to carry out the executions described in the indictment or asked for his acquittal.

Rui Costa Dentinho’s lawyer, Luisa Macanjo, explains that the accused has no messages, no photographs and is not included in any video footage of the events. He explains that the autopsy report also did not reveal any traumatic injuries.

Macajo also told other lawyers about the contradictions of Jose Carlos Mendez, “Cuco,” a “superhero” who does not appear in the images and has not been seen by any witnesses.

Renato spoke again and once again apologized to Igor’s family and other defendants not involved in the case.

The announcement of the decision was scheduled for May 7 at 14.00.

All the defendants, as well as Igor’s mother, were present at the trial. After missing several court hearings, Marco Orelas’ daughter, Yara, returns to court and kisses Igor Silva’s family again.

Upon the arrival of the four detained accused: “Orelhas”, his son Renato, Paulo “Cianfra” and “Xio”, Igor’s mother shouted “murderers” and asked for “justice”.
