An inmate at a maximum-security prison in Idaho, USA, and a former cellmate who helped him escape from a hospital were arrested Thursday, ending a 36-hour manhunt, authorities said. Reuters.
Skylar Mead, who was serving a sentence for aggravated assault, and her escape accomplice Nicholas Umphenour were arrested near Twin Falls, Idaho, about 80 miles southeast of the Boise hospital where they fled Wednesday morning, police said. .
During the hunt for the two fugitives, two other men were found dead in two separate locations, in Nez Perce and Clearwater counties, more than 200 miles north of Boise, the state capital, according to Idaho State Police.
The two killings were being investigated as “potentially related” to the prison break and subsequent attempt to evade authorities, State Police Lt. Col. Sheldon Kelly said. He declined to go into detail.
Mead and Umphenour were captured separately and without “extensive use of force” after a short car chase.
