British Museum evacuated due to protest by climate and pro-Palestinian activists

The British Museum in London was evacuated after hundreds of climate and pro-Palestinian activists blocked the entrance to the historic building on Sunday afternoon.

A new alliance between pro-Palestinian groups and those associated with the Just Stop the Oil movement, called the Energy Embargo for Palestine, attacked the historic building on Russell Street in the English capital around 2:15 p.m.

“We are returning to the British Museum to take action against its new 10-year contract with mega-conglomerate British Petroleum, which was granted gas exploration licenses off the coast of Gaza by the Zionist organization on October 30,” the statement said. group to which it belongs Daily mail had access.

The Metropolitan Police and the British Museum have been informed of the planned protest.

Last December, the British Museum confirmed it would extend its 27-year partnership with British Petroleum for a further decade in a deal worth £50 million (equivalent to around €58 million).

The group Energy Embargo for Palestine protested the announcement at the British Museum on February 11th. Carrying banners and Palestinian flags, activists called on museum leaders to “throw out BP now.”
