Abdul Bashir, charged with two counts of qualified murder and six counts of attempted murder in connection with the attack on the Ismaili center in Lisbon, is accused of killing his wife before entering our country.
In December 2019, on the island of Lesbos in Greece, an Afghan citizen set fire to a house where a couple lived with three minor children. He set the fire with direct flame and left the gas cylinder next to the woman’s bed. He then took the three youngest children and allowed the victim to burn in the fire.
That night, faced with panic at a shelter where several refugees were staying, Abdul stopped his neighbor from trying to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. This put several families at risk. Two days after this action, the now accused and his three minor children were transferred to another region of Greece due to their vulnerability as they were left without a home.
On October 19, 2020, almost a year after the murder of his wife, he once again managed to deceive European justice. He asked for asylum but said there was a mistake in his identification. He enclosed some documents that he said were sent from Afghanistan and asked that his last name be changed. It was with this false document that he managed to reach Portugal, and with this identity card he managed to evade the international arrest warrants issued at the same time.
It was only the day after the attack on the Ismaili Center that killed two women, on March 28, 2023, that Greek authorities realized their mistake and corrected the warrants again.
MP wants to recognize Abdul Bashir
The prosecutor’s office (deputy) states that Abdul Bashir is dangerous and asks that the Afghan be declared insane and forcibly hospitalized. A recent change to mental health law states that Bashir can be hospitalized for a maximum of 25 years, after which he must be released even if he refuses treatment.
Experts say he suffers from schizophrenia and has a “malignant narcissistic” personality. This means you have a narcissistic personality and antisocial personality disorder. This is considered very dangerous and says the deputy could kill again.
