This Wednesday, MPs will meet again in plenary session at 12 noon to try to elect a second state representative.
But if no candidate receives the minimum 116 votes, the rules of the Assembly of the Republic make no provision for breaking the deadlock. The process is restarted without limiting the number of attempts.If, after a certain number of votes, no candidate receives the minimum number of yes votes, the candidate with the most votes is not elected. The hypothesis is not provided for by regulations.
The impasse over the election of the second state figure is also delaying election of four vice-presidents of the Assembly of the Republic, four secretaries and four other vice-secretaries.
