Excluding or retaining children with special educational needs in photographs taken in a classroom at Aboyne Primary School in Scotland was an option given to those responsible for education. Storm Photographyphoto company, according to Sky News. This possibility intrigued caregivers when they realized that their children could become disabled simply by using wheelchairs.
Erin Pinnell, nine years old, she was one of the girls whose remaining students’ parents might decide to remove the photo to memorialize their children’s school memories.
“They erased my daughter from history. I couldn’t believe it. I opened it several times and thought I must be missing something. I’m devastated, there are no words to describe it. It was one of the most painful experiences. for the mother to see an adult, to give other adults the opportunity to erase my daughter from history,” explained her mother Natalie Pinnell.
According to the education officer, the school was unaware of what was happening. When the institution contacted the photo company, it received confirmation that guardians of two classes could make this choice.
Natalie Pinnell said she had received support from the school to try to resolve the situation: “This cannot be allowed to happen. It’s very painful to talk about and the only reason I’m doing this is to raise awareness and ensure that no other family goes through this because it’s just not acceptable.”
After complaints were made, the company issued an apology: “Recently, while photographing a class group, one of our photographers took additional images of the class group, resulting in some class members being excluded from the photo. We deeply regret any disruption this has caused. We are a family run school photography business across the UK and would like to reassure our clients that this is not normal business procedure and that we take this matter very seriously. We are committed to making significant changes to prevent this from happening in the future.”
