More than 660 road traffic accidents resulting in one death, seven serious injuries and 179 minor injuries make up the remainder of GNR’s Operation Easter 2024, according to preliminary data released this Sunday.

According to the GNR, from 00:00 on Thursday to 23:59 on Saturday, 663 road accidents were recorded, and 16,798 drivers were checked during the operation carried out by the military from the territorial commands and the national road team across the country.

Of the 16,798 drivers tested, 239 were driving while intoxicated, and of these, 133 were arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 1.2 g/L.

39 people were also arrested for driving without a legal license, the National Republican Guard (NRG) said in a statement.

During inspection activities, the military identified 2,338 violations of traffic rules, of which 458 were due to speeding, 348 due to the lack of mandatory periodic technical inspection, 119 due to the lack of compulsory civil liability insurance and 60 due to anomalies in the systems. lighting and alarm.

According to the data, 58 drivers were fined for improper use of a mobile phone while driving, and 65 for failure to use or improper use of a seat belt and/or child seat.

The security guard advises people to be alert, careful and careful while driving to ensure the festive period can be enjoyed safely.

To travel safely this holiday season, the GNR advises, among other things, to “adapt speed to weather conditions, road conditions and traffic volumes” and “avoid maneuvers that could result in traffic obstruction or that in any way could cause to accidents.”

He also adds that “he will be particularly concerned about risky behavior by drivers, especially those that jeopardize their safety and the safety of third parties.”

Therefore, Guard members will be especially alert to dangerous maneuvers, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or psychotropic substances, speeding, overtaking maneuvers, as well as inappropriate use of mobile phones, failure to use a seat belt and a child seat. and vehicle safety conditions.

According to the GNR, the inspection period to increase road patrol efforts on key roads began on Thursday and will continue until Monday, when higher traffic volumes are expected.
