The search for a diver missing at sea since Saturday evening near the Fradinhos islets on the island of Terceira in the Azores will resume this Monday afternoon, weather conditions permitting, the National Maritime Authority said.
The National Maritime Administration said in a statement that the search for the 43-year-old diver “will resume this afternoon as soon as meteorological and oceanographic conditions permit.”
“The search operations, coordinated by the harbor master and the local commander of the Praia da Vitória and Angra Marine Police, will involve members of the crew of Praia da Vitória and the Angra rescue station, as well as elements of the Praia da Vitória and Angra Marine Police local command. Da Vitória in Terceira took part in this with the support of a boat, as well as a group of volunteer amateur divers from the island’s maritime clubs,” the statement said.
The National Maritime Administration says “NCIS’s psychological unit has been activated” and is “providing support to the victim’s family and friends.”
“From what has been established, the man was diving and did not return to land,” the National Maritime Authorities added.
The search for the diver was interrupted on Sunday afternoon due to weather conditions and was expected to resume on Monday morning, but weather and sea conditions have not yet allowed it.
A friend of the victim reported the disappearance alert, saying that the man did not return after diving.
