Aquatic center to open less than four months before Paris Olympics

The aquatic center for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, a wooden building whose upper structure looks like a wave, was inaugurated this Thursday in a ceremony in which the French President emphasized the deadline for the work.

The building, located next to the Stade de France, is the largest sports infrastructure built by the organization and French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that it is an example of the country’s commitment.

“This is an example of France building infrastructure on time and on budget,” Macron said, citing the Covid-19 crisis, the war in Ukraine and inflation, avoiding comparisons with economic aberrations at other Olympics.

The €188 million aquatic center is considered an innovative building not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also from an environmental point of view.

Under the covered convex structure, the Center will accommodate 5,000 spectators and will be the largest in France with a swimming pool, given that the existing limit on venues was 1,000 spectators.

The development also highlights the connection, via a wide pedestrian bridge spanning the motorway, with the Stade de France, the neighboring venue where most athletics events will take place.

The aquatic center features a modular pool that will be split into two during the Games, one dedicated to synchronized swimming and diving, and designed to limit energy consumption as much as possible, in a facility with a capacity of 5,000 people. square meters of photovoltaic panels and air conditioning systems based on biomass.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11, followed by tradition by the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8.
