Argentine international footballer Enzo Fernandez promised this Wednesday that he will keep Benfica “in his heart” and that he is grateful for the opportunity to play for one of the “greatest clubs in the world”.
The 21-year-old midfielder was officially announced on Tuesday as a Chelsea addition, with the English club paying €121m to sign at the close of the winter transfer market.
“Thank you very much, Benfica fans. I want to thank you along with my family for the love you have shown in these five months, I am grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to play in one of the biggest clubs in the world in which I enjoyed every moment and gave my best maximum, ”the footballer wrote on Instagram.
The day after his departure was officially announced, with Chelsea paying little more than a release clause of 120 IU, the footballer also thanked his teammates at Luz who made him “feel like at home” and treated him “in the best possible way”.
“Thank you to everyone who runs the club, and especially Roger Schmidt, all his staff for the trust and daily respect, I was very happy. Thank you Benfica, I will always carry you in my heart,” the player concluded.
Considered the best young player in the 2022 World Cup he won with Argentina, Enzo Fernandez played 29 games for Benfica and scored four goals.
Before joining Benfica at the start of the 2022/23 season, the midfielder was almost always linked to River Plate and was also on loan from Defensa y Justitia, also from Argentina.
