An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck New York in the United States this Friday, the US Geological Survey said, citing Reuters. The agency previously reported that the magnitude would be 5.5 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter was near Whitehouse Station in New Jersey. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt throughout the region, including New York, New Jersey, northern Pennsylvania and western Connecticut.
There is no immediate damage.
In accordance with ReutersThe Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) informed airlines that they can expect flights to New York City airports to be grounded and delayed for 30 to 45 minutes. Some flights heading to New York were diverted to other airports.
“Air traffic is resuming as quickly as possible,” the FAA said.
The busy Holland Tunnel, one of three major Hudson River crossings between New York and New Jersey, will be temporarily closed for inspection, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said, citing Reuters.
