Thieves stole alms from a chapel in Chaves

The chapel at the San Cayetano Sanctuary in the Hervededo parish of the municipality of Chaves was robbed and vandalized early Friday morning. The population is outraged by the theft and, above all, by the destruction caused by the robbers.

According to a GNR source in Vila Real, 400 euros were stolen from begging boxes. The damage also included the complete destruction of two lamps worth 1,500 euros, as well as alms deposits.

To gain entry to the chapel, the robbers had to break the door lock, causing about €50 worth of damage. In total, according to the calculations of the priest responsible for the sanctuary, the losses amount to about 3,500 euros.

Authorities were alerted to the robbery on Friday morning. GNR soldiers arrived at the scene collecting evidence and are currently investigating the situation. However, according to CM It has been established that the perpetrators of the robbery have not yet been identified.
