Andre Villas-Boas wants an eclectic and strong Porto. So he chose Mario Santos as CEO to revolutionize the way the club operates, making it even more competitive against rivals Benfica and Sporting.
The former president of the Portuguese Canoeing Federation and head of the Portuguese mission to the London 2012 Olympic Games was chosen to tackle this task. Starting with the creation of new club sports such as futsal (where the desire is to have a team capable of taking on rivals Benfica and Sporting) or women’s football. Despite the delay of his rivals, Mario Santos is betting on a short-term project with surgical investments to achieve positive results faster.
High Performance Center
Mario Santos has already expressed his desire to create a high-performance center. “Like football, the sport needs a high-performance center, sports facilities adapted for training, with multi-disciplinary and multi-functional capabilities to overcome obstacles,” he said.
