This Thursday, UEFA welcomed the fact that fans of Benfica and Marseille will be able to watch the two quarter-final matches of the Europa League, which was at serious risk.
“We would like to thank both clubs and their fans, as well as the National Supporters Association and the Portuguese Supporters’ Protection Association for their support in achieving this positive result. We hope for a great atmosphere in both stadiums,” you can read in the note published by UEFA on the social network.
This public stance by UEFA followed the French police’s decision to ban Benfica fans from entering the second leg at the Vélodrome, which resulted in the red club, also citing security concerns, banning Marseille fans from the Stade de Luz.
