The judge of the investigative court number four of Majadahonda, Delia Rodrigo, decided this Friday to change in the Brodie case the status of a witness to the defendant Pedro Rocha, the only candidate for the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The former President of the Management Committee, announced this Friday as the sole candidate for the RFEF, was called to testify this Friday as a witness in the investigation into alleged irregularities in the Federation’s contracts over the past five years.
Pedro Rocha left the court after his testimony as a witness and investigator was suspended, but assured that he was calm.
“I leave with the same calm as I came in. I’m fine. I have a very clear conscience,” the leader said, adding when asked that he was not involved in the Federation’s contract with Saudi Arabia.
Judge Delia Rodrigo changed Pedro Rocha’s status after accepting a motion from prosecutor José Miguel Alonso, given the lack of answers from the Federation leader and the lack of knowledge he said he had in the questions asked.
Pedro Rocha, who was vice president of finance, argued that he had nothing to do with the contracts being investigated for alleged mismanagement by Luis Rubiales and, given his new status as an investigator, his hearing would be held on April 29.
The former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, accused of several crimes as part of an alleged corruption scheme, will appear in court in Spain on April 29.
Rubiales, who is also under investigation for the forced kiss he gave to soccer player Jenny Hermoso after winning the 2023 World Cup, faces charges of corruption, money laundering, mischief and criminal organization.
The judiciary is investigating alleged irregularities during the five years Rubiales headed the federal body, from 2018 to 2023, focusing on the case of moving the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia, at a cost estimated at 40 million euros a year.
The deal was brokered by the Kosmos company of former Spanish footballer Gerard Pique, who, like the former RFEF president, defended the legality of the process after excerpts of telephone conversations between the two were published in the media, in which millions of euros in commissions were mentioned.
