GNR blamed a 40-year-old woman who was seized 915 counterfeit clothing items worth around 13,000 euros in the districts of Faro and Porto as part of Operation False Shirt, as announced this Thursday.
According to the GNR, the value of the seized items is 12,885 euros, and their introduction into consumption through marginal commercial schemes would have hurt the Portuguese state in terms of value added tax (VAT) of approximately 2,963 euros.
As part of an investigation of industrial property crimes of counterfeiting, imitation and illegal use of a trademark, which lasted about two and a half years, the military guards established that “the suspect sold counterfeit products through social networks and executed four warrants for searching a house, two for vehicles and one for storage.
During the investigation, the military guards also found that a warehouse located in the Porto area produced counterfeit clothing items, which were subsequently put up for sale through live broadcasts on social networks.
As a result of a police operation carried out by Faro Financial Crime Squad (DAF) officers, 915 items of clothing, various accessories and appliqués with counterfeit logos, and a mobile phone were seized.
The 40-year-old woman was charged and the facts were referred to the Silves Court of Justice.
GNR states that the purpose of this type of action is to enforce industrial property rights, mainly aimed at combating counterfeiting, imitation, illegal use of trademarks and the sale of counterfeit goods.
